JAYADEVI

E-RYT 500

Jacinta "Jayadevi" Hollon is a certified Yoga and Pilates instructor, registered with Yoga Alliance, Power Pilates, and the Integral Yoga Teachers Association. Her teaching method is informed by certifications in Hatha, Vinyasa, Accessible, Therapeutic/Restorative and Yin Yoga, Raja Yoga philosophy, advanced Pranayama and Meditation techniques, as well as classical Pilates. Jayadevi currently teaches weekly classes, special workshops and teacher training programs through Integral Yoga Institute, New York, where she serves as the Director of Teacher Training.

Coming from a diverse background in classical dance and contemporary expressive movement, Jayadevi discovered Yoga as a performing artist and dance teacher, seeking a mindful and compassionate approach to realizing the body's full potential.  When a series of repetitive injuries brought an abrupt end to her dance career, threatening her ability even to walk, Jayadevi understood that she needed to reframe her relationship with movement. Through personal experience with the healing and transformative powers of Yoga, Jayadevi felt called to share the benefits of integrative mind-body practice with others. While she enjoys teaching all levels, Jayadevi especially appreciates the opportunity to adapt practices to assist clients in recovery and rehabilitation after injury or surgery, and loves to work with beginners who think they "can't do yoga"...spoiler, they can!

Jayadevi's academic education began with East Asian Studies at New York University and Nanjing University. In the course of her studies, she was gifted with the opportunity to travel extensively in China, exploring Eastern philosophy, spiritual practices, and plant-based medicine. Along her travels, she absorbed the ancient traditions of Tai Chi and Qigong, which continue to influence her approach to Yoga. Her personal practice is deeply rooted in Taoist teachings, the seeds of which were planted during her travels and further nourished by initiation into the spiritual path. After returning to the United States, she continued her studies with a concentration in Psychology and Human Development at the State University of New York, with special interest in alternative approaches to mental health.

In the spirit of mettā (loving kindness) she draws on her diverse studies to offer services with a holistic approach to physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. Every class is a heartfelt offering that invites the practitioner on an inward journey to self-connection and an experience of wholeness. It is her hope and intention to assist others in finding ease and comfort in their bodies, along with peace and happiness in their daily lives.

Jacinta's spiritual name, Jayadevi, was a blessing from her teachers, meaning "Victorious Goddess".

Reflecting that sentiment, Jayavati is a Sanskrit name for a victorious being, one who embodies this essence,

a feeling Jayadevi would like to impart to all who follow the yogic path.
